11.233 acres This beautiful undeveloped eleven-acre parcel is located just South of Lake Lemon and a convenient ten-minute drive from Bloomington. This rare build site meets all the requirements for county building codes and has two established septic sites and driveway permits. A true ready-to-build property.
In the past few years, as Bloomington has started allowing ADUs by right, we have seen an increase in inquiries and requests for these projects. We have had the opportunity to take part in a couple of ADU projects. One was designing and renovating the original (but distressed) limestone garage that existed on our client’s property and turning it into an ADU. The project consisted of taking what was a very small and very rough garage and repurposing it as a small overflow space for the home. Also, we are currently building ADUs on a few lots in our Bloomington Cohousing neighborhood. Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) are an emerging trend in the housing landscape in Bloomington and across the rest of the country. ADUs, also known as granny flats, in-law suites, or backyard cottages, are small, self-contained residential units built on the same property as an existing home.
We recently acquired our neighboring building which was formerly a travel agency to expand our office workspace. This client-centric space, now known as the Design Studio, serves as an extension of our creative team’s domain and plays an integral part in our overall design process.
The design studio provides designers and clients with a resource for comprehensive support throughout the entire design process – from schematic design all the way to construction. Our well-stocked studio allows us to show clients design and style options in a timely manner. This allows us to maintain our strong commitment to the aesthetics of the project and provide a highly positive client experience.
Project Designers Priscilla Rocha and Tucker Jaroll went on a trip that started in Brasília and ended with a fifteen-hour road trip to Rio de Janeiro where they spent a handful of sunny days in Copacabana. Brasília is known for its modernist architecture, so they were really looking forward to exploring the city.
Loren Wood Builders recently had the opportunity to host a group of Edgewood Junior High School 6th graders as part of the “Tour of Opportunity” as part of the Success School curricula — sponsored by The Greater Bloomington Area Chamber of Commerce.
We were so happy to play a part again in this year’s Habitat for Humanity Women Build. Our crew of women from LWB, Bailey Swan, Priscilla Rocha, Rachel Henry, Jonelle Gross, Natalie Foy, and Sarah Menefee all volunteered over the course of two weeks and helped to build homes for two deserving families, with Natalie and Sarah working as crew leaders on the build.
This year, Joel and I attended the National Cohousing conference in Madison, WI, put on by the Cohousing Association of America along with two current members of the Bloomington Cohousing community to help spread the word about our growing neighborhood and to continue to be active in the cohousing community at large. This was the first in-person conference since the onset of Covid. It was such a pleasure to reconnect with the greater Coho community and to see old friends again.
In this tutorial, we offer a quick and easy process for connecting mitered corners. This process can be used in lots of different miter applications and eliminates the use of clamps when keeping the edges in place. It’s clean and easy, and requires less work, especially with long pieces of wood. We hope this quick…
We have two interns working with us this winter and spring, Madison Knott and Megan Hodge. They will be helping with our design team and with project management.
