The young family that inhabits this mid-century home near Lake Griffy was ready for more space and more style. With a spacious backyard, a great location, and a workable floor plan, the family was reluctant to move. An addition would offer needed square footage and allow the homeowners to put their own spin (flame-colored lacquered cabinetry, marble tile, Sputnick-inspired light fixtures) on this modest ranch. The new design by Kirkwood Design Studio added a master suit with vaulted ceilings and fantastic views of the wooded backyard, an upper level deck that spans the main living space of the home, and a new addition. Despite the scope of the addition, the home retains its scale and proportion. New Artisan fiber-cement siding, a pergola and an oversized steel door in a palette of carbon and persimmon really deliver on style.
