Meet Our LWB Interns
We have two interns working with us this summer, Caden and Payton. They are helping with our design team under the direction of project designer, Alex Minor.
Caden:
Caden came from Terre Haute, Indiana, and is a student at Indiana University studying comprehensive design focusing on design fabrication (merging art, design, and fabrication to bring creative ideas to life), with one more semester left. His focus is taking designs and figuring out how to build them into smaller structures or objects. An example of this is a tambour door desk he built. He performed experiments to see if the coil could operate better and seamlessly into the desk itself.
He started working with us in May of 2023 and is excited to further his internship by working with the design team. Caden initially worked with Jacob in our woodshop building out the interior for our large custom greenhouse in Zionsville and building beam wraps for one of our remodel projects.
He has created detail sets for pocket doors which we are implementing in all construction drawings going forward. He’s also created infographics for ADUs for Bloomington, which is a list of properties and setbacks, and a checklist for clients and the office, as well as helping with details for ongoing projects.
In his free time, he enjoys drawing, and printmaking, and he spends a lot of time at the campus woodshop.
He says “It’s been an awesome experience. Everyone has been super welcoming and inviting and I’ve learned a lot about the professional design world, and gotten lots of experience with the programs and tackling projects.”
Payton:
Payton came from Portland Indiana, north of Muncie, and is a graduate of Ball State University. After deciding to pivot from his original major he spoke to an architecture professor that advised him to take part in the career change architecture program, which is essentially six years of classes packed into three. He fell in love with the program almost immediately and quickly built a passion for it. He said, “My biggest influence is my grandpa who built his whole house from the ground up, and I hope to do that myself someday, but first I have to learn exactly how, and I think I’m in the right place.” He graduated with a degree in advertising and is currently in grad school for architecture at Ball State with one more year to go.
Payton’s interests are centered around the environmental psychology component of architecture; how your environment affects you and your life. Currently, he’s helping to create rendings and construction documents. Right now he is helping Alex with a large-scale remodel project. So far he’s enjoyed learning more about the client relationship and how all the pieces come together to help bring someone’s vision to life.
In his free time, he likes to dabble in carpentry and enjoys building custom furniture and slab tables for restaurants.
Caden and Payton are among the great interns we’ve had the chance to work with here at LWB. Our internship program continues to be one of our favorite parts of LWB because we get the chance to offer students the opportunity to explore their field of study in a real-world environment, not to mention we get the chance to work alongside these creative and inspiring minds!
