The First Update on our New Shop

We’re excited to give you an update about work at our new shop at 900 S. Walnut. While we closed on the space last spring, we didn’t have time to start working on the improvements until well into fall. The whole team has been working so hard to bring the shop and office together and they have all done an incredible job.

Be sure and check out all of the before photos and progress shots in the gallery, and yes, that pile of metal and nails is what we picked up in the gravel drive and behind our shop. Yikes!

We’ve got quite a bit of work yet to do, but here’s a quick summary of what’s been done so far:

  • Completed the interior design programming with Phanomen Design that we are really excited about!
  • Updated all of the HVAC in the building with Commercial Service. Shifting from the old inefficient boilers to high efficiency zoned forced air units is going to be a game changes for us
  • Rehabilitated the shop space. It’s now up and running and our team is really excited to have a larger more intentional space in which to work
  • Redid the landscaping on the exterior with Mother Nature Landscaping
  • Redid the flooring throughout the building with Dan Knipstine from our team resurfacing the shop floor and Carpets Plus Color Tile handling the office spaces. Jared and Kole Hamm have been doing the tile work in the main foyer and restroom areas and they’ve been doing beautiful work!
  • Refinishing all of the original trim and doors, as well as rehabbing the original door hardware (again, special thanks to Dan and Evan Knipstine, respectively)

While we probably have a month or two yet to completion, here’s some of the stuff that we are just now getting started on and are pretty excited about:

  • Installing wraparound desks in all of the office spaces. We are using slabs of various local hardwood species that were cut, milled, and kiln-dried here in Bloomington by Bluestone Tree. We are excited to be a part of their reuse program for the dead and diseased trees that they need to take down around town here. What an awesome local resource!
  • We are working on some exterior signage with Clutch Fabrications. Excited to see that work come to fruition
  • Getting some final wallcoverings and artwork up and being able to fully move in!
  • All new low voltage and AV work by Experience Technology. This might not sound all that exciting, but the network and audiovisual setup is the backbone of a functional office. I’m so grateful for the work system that ET is putting together in the new space!
  • A new kitchen with a brand new line of cabinetry by Stoll’s Woodworking. It’s a sleek frameless style that fits beautifully with the eclectic aesthetic of our new space.
  • At some point this year, we are hopeful that we can all work safely under the same roof again!
