New Construction
Northside Modern
These clients approached us with an idea to build a new modern home in an established Bloomington neighborhood. After early discussions with our design team, we helped develop an exciting model that the homeowners fell in love with. Our architect, Ernesto Castaneda led the charge from concept to construction drawings. The result was a striking, contemporary home situated perfectly on the building lot. One of the most architecturally interesting building features of this home is the cantilevered living space and deck. We worked with structural engineers and framers to ensure this unique feature could be executed to our shared vision. This floating volume is adjacent to the other feature of interest in the A606 weathering Steel wall treatment. Also known as corten, this steel is meant to patina over time, becoming warmer and evermore interesting visually.
The grand room of the home houses the living room, dining room, and kitchen and boasts a modern corner fireplace and 14-foot ceilings on the high side. The home is rich with sunlight at all times of day allowed by oversized windows throughout. The overhang of the main roof volume serves as protection from the elements when spending time on the deck and also provides a visual weight to the high side of the home. Floors throughout the main floor are hard maple that was carefully installed by our own Will Hill. Another standout feature is the floor registers that Will recommended, sourced, and installed with continuous grain from the surrounding floor.
The cabinetry throughout was based on our architectural blueprints and revised, compiled, manufactured, and installed by the team at Stoll’s Woodworking. The entire suite was painted a glossy white and fits in each room seamlessly. Through design the cabinetry was able to integrate gracefully with a focus on sleek, clean lines and functionality. With all-white walls and cabinetry, the clients were able to shift focal points indoors to their curated collection of art.
Our trim team, led on this project by Nathaniel Baker, paid utmost attention to the remarkable trim details throughout the home. Russell Wyatt was essential in the punch list phase of this project and his keen eye helped to bring the project to perfection.
We are so proud of how this home came together. The clients were living out of state during the entire project from groundbreaking to final inspection. The day they saw the home in real life was such a milestone for them and our team.
