Cameron Avenue
This thoughtfully designed custom home in Bloomington’s Hoosier Acres neighborhood reflects a balance of family-centered living, long-term functionality, and refined craftsmanship. The clients approached us with a clear goal in mind: to create a welcoming home that could serve as a gathering place for their extended family during holidays and special events. Designed with aging in place in mind, the house brings together open, inviting spaces with the comfort and accessibility needed for the long term.
From early concept through construction, this home was shaped by a shared design vision and ongoing collaboration. The final result is a clean, well-composed home that balances architectural clarity with warmth and livability. A prominent gabled entry, supported by exposed wood beams, sets the tone for the welcoming spaces within.
Inside, the heart of the home is the open great room, which features vaulted ceilings with skylights, stained wood beams, and a stone fireplace. The adjacent kitchen is anchored by a generous island and wraparound cabinetry that seamlessly conceals a walk-in pantry, elevator access, and an entry to the home office. Sliding wood slatted panels along the staircase cleverly hide a large television, preserving the open wall space and aesthetic flow of the main living area. A screened-in porch extends the home’s living space and provides a comfortable, year-round connection to the outdoors.
Lighting was a key design focus for this home. We took a layered approach, combining ambient, task, and accent lighting to support the home’s use and feel throughout the day. Directional strip lighting washes the vaulted ceiling and stone walls with light, while custom-built-ins include integrated lighting to highlight the client’s art collection. Everything is zoned and dimmable to offer easy control and flexibility.
During construction, our team worked closely with the clients through weekly site meetings, ensuring that every detail, from finishes to functional elements, aligned with their goals. A focused value-engineering process allowed us to preserve all desired room types and specialty spaces, including a home theater and golf simulator, without compromising quality or intent.
Now complete, the Cameron Avenue home stands as a true family hub. It’s a place for entertaining, relaxing, and connecting, one that reflects the lifestyle and values of the people who live there. We’re proud of the strong collaboration this project represents and the lasting relationships it helped build.
