Classic Log Cabin Remodel
This classic log home in Unionville, Indiana, was filled with charm and character but lacked the space and flow that our clients were seeking. Our team was brought in to design and construct a thoughtful expansion that would give them more room while preserving the character that made the home special. It was important to our clients to preserve as much of the original log cabin as possible. The remodel included a new custom home addition, office, a wraparound porch, a second-story build on the back of the house, an updated primary bathroom, a large exterior deck, and upstairs storage. We also transformed the original porch into a bright dining room with new lighting and large windows that now serve as the heart of the home.
THE CHALLENGE
With a structure standing for decades, the challenges of this historic log home renovation centered around aligning flooring and trim details throughout the home, especially where the original exterior walls became interior walls. Each transition had to work within the new layout and updated design aesthetic, requiring careful planning and precise craftsmanship to seamlessly blend old with new. We also created a circular flow between the existing kitchen and living room and the new dining room.
THE DESIGN-BUILD PROCESS
This remodel involved constant problem-solving between our project designer and the build team. They met on-site often to address challenges that only became apparent during construction. Making decisions in real time and collaborating closely allows our team to keep both the design and craftsmanship aligned with the overall vision.
THE RESULT
The result is a seamless blend of past and present, a custom log home remodel that feels larger, lighter, and more functional, without losing the rustic charm that drew the owners there in the first place. The remodel elevated the log cabin, giving our clients new ways to enjoy their home like never before.
