Covenanter Ranch

Our clients bought this home near campus on the east side of Bloomington that was in need of a total update. The design by Susan Yeley Homes called for a total gut of the existing house and the demolition of an old addition. Hydrostatic pressure had wreaked havoc on the foundation, so we excavated the entire perimeter of the existing home, installed a continuous drain at footer and backfilled the newly straightened walls with gravel. A new egress window was cut out to create a comfortable guest bedroom in the basement. From there we installed all new plumbing, wiring and insulation. The 1100 square foot addition includes a spacious master suite as well as a family room with a vaulted ceiling. A double-sided fireplace ties the existing space to the new. All interior load-bearing walls were removed which proved to be quite a challenge!

The new layout features wide open spaces made possible by engineered beams and steel headers. Abundant natural light fills the room with the addition of large banks of windows, skylights and a four-panel sliding patio door that leads to the backyard. The flooring is engineered walnut and truly stands out in the entire living space. Stoll’s Woodworking supplied and installed all cabinetry for this remodel including the kitchen, mudroom and all bathrooms. Clutch Fabrication built the modern staircase railing that allows open sight lines in the entry. This absolute transformation presented many challenges that our team was able to overcome, and the end result is a beautiful dream home for some wonderful clients.
