This screen-porch addition replaced a small deck in the backyard of a downtown bungalow. The layout, designed by Ernesto Castaneda, allows for outdoor dining, has a small exterior deck space for grilling, and includes a wood stove for some cozy colder-season porch time. One feature that is noteworthy is the screen door on a sliding door track. We like this because it allows for maximum use of space on either side of the door. In this instance, it allows for the dining table right inside the door and the grill right outside. Additionally, the custom reclaimed-redwood door will take much less abuse in this orientation. This new porch addition and extended living space have created the perfect oasis for entertaining and relaxing during the summer and fall evenings.
