Staircase Design & Remodel
These clients wanted to update their staircase with a new design and full remodel. Their home was originally designed with a helical staircase that was the focal point of the entrance of the home. However, over the years, the home had been renovated and transformed into a much more contemporary space and the original stair did not complement this much more modern aesthetic.
The solution that our design team arrived at provided a much cleaner and more open design with a 90-degree, L-shaped, layout using a single steel stringer broken up by a landing. We fabricated floating treads to complement the existing hand-scraped Hickory floors and used a glass railing for the balustrade, which helped maintain open site lines and provide views of the art wall from multiple perspectives. Intentional lighting design added a lot of value, but to the stair design and to the ability to showcase artwork.
Finally, we removed the adjacent entry closet and accompanying bifold doors, replacing them with a flush hallway storage design that is both more elegant and more functional than the original closet.
While the scope of this project was fairly limited, the impact on the main entrance to the home is quite profound. We are excited to have the opportunity to round out these key elements in this very unique home
