Sycamore Land Trust
As long time supporters of Sycamore Landtrust, we were really excited when they asked us to help them create space for parking and access to one of their newest (and coolest) properties that they have protected and preserved for public use. Furthermore, the Amy Weingartner Branigin Peninsula Preserve is located right in the middle of our Shawnee Bluffs neighborhood, so the partnership made a lot of sense from a practical standpoint, as well. Being in one of the most environmentally sensitive areas of the county, erosion and runoff had to be handled very intentionally, so this parking lot includes a heavily engineered permeable parking area, along with a hard service driveway, handicap parking, plantings and hardscaping, and trailhead. While a parking lot is not a particularly attractive or exciting project on the surface, this project was very exciting for us in what it represented: Access to public and preserved land, along with an opportunity to collaborate with one of our favorite local resources, the Sycamore Land Trust. We hope you’ll come out and use the new driveway and parking area to start your hike on the newly accessible preserve.
