Mt. Gilead Remodel

Mt. Gilead Remodel

Our clients recently purchased this home that was built in the hills of Monroe County in the early 1990s. During the design phase, the primary focus was on the kitchen, the primary bathroom, and the living room/fireplace. One overarching goal was a desire to have the space mimic the rustic lodges of Minnesota, a place the couple had shared many memories, while still fitting with the existing aesthetics of the rest of the home and setting.

This new home, Designed by Ernesto Castaneda, was a really exciting project for us. With a nod towards the traditional Indiana farmhouse, the exterior of this ranch home is a painted board and baton, while the interior is fleshed out with many hand-crafted and thoughtful details that help to complete our client’s vision.

We were excited and honored when our good friends reached out to us for help renovating their newly purchased home. This home, previously owned by their mother, needed some updating and they wanted to add their own personality to the space. With design help from Stoll’s Woodworking and Whimsey Interiors, we were able to create a clean, beautiful, and contemporary space that still honored the colonial style of the original salt-box home. Numerous updates were done, including a completely new kitchen and main floor bathroom and laundry room. Some extra special elements were added, such as a herringbone accent wall in the living room, a reclaimed barn beam over the fireplace, and a hidden door entry into the laundry from the kitchen. All of these updates helped make the space work for this next generation in the family home.

We were contacted by these clients to remodel their kitchen on the Northeast side of town. Typical of the era, darker finishes, combined with a small patio door to the west end deck, further reflected a kitchen, not in scale or functional with the rest of the large home. The design solution was to expand into the previous dining space and put a focus on culinary, organization, and family collaboration; around a large central island flanked by a second sink, further serving to encourage family meal preparation and socializing. With floating shelves, glass backsplash, and seamless appliance planning and integration, the new kitchen is now more functional and updated.

These homeowners contacted us to help them design and build an addition on the backside of their Bloomington home. During the design process, our architects Ernesto Castaneda and Alex Minor, met with the clients multiple times to discuss their wishlist and project timeline. The team was able to design an addition that featured a larger, relocated kitchen over a finished basement and a deck was designed to access the yard from the kitchen via double doors.
