Modern Walkout

Modern Walkout

This contemporary home on an infill lot was designed by Matheu Architects. The design offers clean lines, limestone panels, and nicely framed views of the surrounding wooded location. This is the second home that we have built for this client and we were excited to have another opportunity to work with them.

Wooded View & Greenhouse

Wooded View & Greenhouse

At the early start of spring in 2020, we were invited to visit this beautiful family land on the outskirts of Bloomington. We felt an immediate connection to the clients and the land. It was a wonderful experience working with these folks to place and design a home that maximized views of campus off in the distance while preserving the rural appeal of the site. A greenhouse was integrated into the home to serve as one of the main focal points both from the inside and the outside of the home. When approaching the front entry, your eyes are drawn toward a wall of windows that break up the horizontal, prairie-style, roof line. These become the main source of natural light for the 2 story greenhouse. There is also a screen porch, deck, and rooftop patio from which to watch the stars on clear nights and also to capture the views of the main Library at the IU campus during the day.

Modern Farmhouse

Modern Farmhouse

This new home, Designed by Ernesto Castaneda, was a really exciting project for us. With a nod towards the traditional Indiana farmhouse, the exterior of this ranch home is a painted board and baton, while the interior is fleshed out with many hand-crafted and thoughtful details that help to complete our client’s vision.

This home is part of the new Bloomington Cohousing community. The homes within this neighborhood, originally designed by Mark Cornett, are all intentionally clustered around each other to create a sense of community and promote the use of shared common spaces, all within a small neighborhood footprint. These clients modified the design plan a lot to add their own personal touch to their home.

These clients approached us with an idea to build a new modern home in an established Bloomington neighborhood. After early discussions with our design team, we helped develop an exciting model that the homeowners fell in love with. Our architect, Ernesto Casteneda led the charge from concept to construction drawings. The result was a striking, contemporary home situated perfectly on the building lot. One of the most architecturally interesting building features of this home is the cantilevered living space and deck. We worked with structural engineers and framers to ensure this unique feature could be executed to our shared vision. This floating volume is adjacent to the other feature of interest in the A606 weathering Steel wall treatment. Also known as corten, this steel is meant to patina over time, becoming warmer and evermore interesting visually.
