Custom Ship Ladders

Custom Ship Ladders

Jacob Hyer, one of our lead carpenters, had worked with these clients on the original buildout of their home under another builder and they reached out to us asking if we could help them finish out a few loft areas in the kid’s bedrooms that had not been finalized during the earlier phase of work.

Jacob, along with lead carpenter, Thaddeus Walker, and Alex Minor from our design team, worked with the clients to flesh out the details and the design on these ship ladders. For such a small project, there were lots of details to manage, including existing aesthetics in the home, code compliance, continuous gripability on the rails, adequate traction on the treads, and feasibility for installation.

Custom Lighted Stair Railings

Custom Lighted Stair Railings

While larger construction projects represent the bulk of our work, custom installations remain a niche service that we provide. We love these opportunities to create innovative and elegant solutions to household problems that arise on our projects.

These custom lighted stair railings presented a unique opportunity to combine form and function. Our lead electrician, Brad Snyder, lead architect, Ernesto Castaneda, and finish carpenters, Jacob Hyer and Thaddeus Walker all came together to design and build these lighted railings. While we have done various exterior and interior lighted railings in the past, these represented our first attempt at lighting a functional interior wood stair-rail.

Custom Birch Slat Wall

Custom Birch Slat Wall

As part of the larger office buildout, the design team incorporated an architectural wooden slat wall. Our Finish Carpenters fabricated Birch lumber to achieve an exceptional look with no exposed fasteners and clean lines. Where our finish team really excelled was with the scrupulous layout working around exposed ductwork and doorways seamlessly integrating glass, drywall, and wood. We are really excited with the way this detail turned out.
